Depict Research:
After viewing numeral videos on the 'Depict' website, i have found 4 favorite videos. Said videos i have enjoyed for numeral reasons, this being the story, the cinematography or simply because it was funny.
They are as follows:
- Head over heels by Leonid Grigurko
- Pepper salt battle by Friendly Liu
- Neapolitan Porno by Alan Halls
- Candy crime by Ben Jacobson
Think that these videos are all excellently done. Here are a few reasons as to why i like them.
Head Over Heels by Leonid Grigurko was a brilliantly shot film in my opinion. I think one of the main reasons i enjoyed it was because of the skill and the thought put into the complexity of the techniques used. I think that how some is shot upside down and some is not, and how that is pieced together is incredible. The way that the set and props react to the narrative is great. It is clever how some of the shots are filmed with the camera upside down, and others are with the camera the right way up, and the set has been flipped. I really enjoyed how it was all made to work.
Pepper Salt Battle by Friendly Liu was possibly my favorite out of the four; this is mainly because of the comedic value to the short film. However, the film is shot very well, and is animated even better. I enjoy stop motion pictures, and this film is another to add to my list of favorites. It was very cleverly done, it must of took a while to get everything set up and done to the standards that they have achieved. I also like how camera placement was used throughout, as well as the use of depth of field. Great piece, and filmed very well. Everything Mis-en-scene was perfect.
Neapolitan Porno by Alan Halls is a hilarious film. I think that the grungy and old look to the cameras in the film adds to the comedic value of the film, it makes it funnier and more like and advertisement, which i find very enjoyable. The dialogue over the top of the actual video is funny also, i think that the accent and the tone of the voice used was very clever, and i got a good chuckle out of it. I also think it was filmed rather well, the use of close ups and zoom was very clever, and made the piece visually appealing, besides the fact the ice cream on screen looked scrumptious! The use of colour and lighting was also very appealing, the bright colours made me happy and added an extra 'happy' feel to the piece.
Candy Crime by Ben Jacobson was my favorite film out of the four in respect of cinematography. I think that the lack of colour on anything that isn't candy is very clever, and added to the significance of the candy when it was shown on screen. The large lollipop is a macguffin, and the use of colour only on this, makes i very apparent how important it is to the narrative. I also love the use of angles, depth of field, and shot types within this film. It looks very professional. I also loved the credits in the film and how they come about. The girl gets onto the bus, and the credits are on the side of the stop, also how the bus arrives when the film is over, is amazing; especially assuming how unreliable the services are! The film is a comedic and visual masterpiece.
