Television Advert Analysis

Television Advert Analysis:

What is the ad for / what is the message?

This advert's purpose is to introduce a new flavour of Pot Noodle, this being the 'Doner Kebab' pot. This advert has been made because Pot Noodle is a food company, and being a food company means that you have to introduce new things every now and then so that your customers and following stay interested and continue to come back to your company to buy your food. The message is a humorous and slightly parodic one, and is clear that the advert is made to try and be comedic, and i personally think it achieves that.

Who is the target audience?  (refer to target audience throughout - it is vital)

The Target audience for this advert, as stated in the advert itself is Men, this is proved when one of the characters in the adverts says "We've been making combinations, Just for Men". If this isn't proof of a target audience, I don't know what is. When it comes to Demographics, i personally feel that this advert is aimed at all types of men, from any class. I think that primarily, this advert is aimed towards a middle to working class audience. I feel that because the product is considered as a 'ready meal' or a 'quick fix meal', that this means that working class people and people lower on the status scale would prefer this meal. It is cheap, it is tasty, but people with more money would probably have 'proper' noodles. I also feel that psychographically, this product is aimed at all groups of people, except Succeeders. Obviously, those people are more than welcome to eat a Pot Noodle, but as i stated previously i think that the target audience is middle to working class male individuals, Mainstreamers and Reformers.

There is some evidence of this in the advert itself, because the advert could be considered as 'cheesy' due to the man in the dress and deep, monotone singing voice as well as a high voice. As well as the sparks and
the 'saucy' type video.

This image shows one of the male characters from the advert in a dress, this is comical. I think that although for the majority of the Ad, this character is in a suit, that doesn't mean it is trying to appeal to the Upper class audience. I think that if Pot Noodle wanted to appeal to a 'fancy' higher classed audience then they would make a sleek, sexy but almost 'badass' advert, for example an advert like BMW. But due to the level of humour and the amount of comedy in the advert, as well as the costumes used and language, as well as the song itself; this advert is both demographically and psychographically targeted at Middle class to working class Male Individuals, Reformers and Mainstreamers.

What form does the ad take?

The advert takes a unique form, as it is humorous, but it isn't animated or a documentary. I would class the advert as a live-action, humorous and stand-alone. The advert casts two characters that have appeared in several other Pot Noodle Adverts, such as the "I wish that girls" advert. However, the characters are not involved in an ongoing narrative or theme, therefore the adverts containing the characters could not be considered as a series, instead a group of adverts with the same, or similar cast. I would consider the advert to be live action, as it isn't animated, and contains real life actors.

What style is the ad / what persuasion techniques are used?

As stated previously, I would class the style of the advert as Humourous ans slightly Parodic. No celebrities are shown in the advert, but regular people as actors. The video is not serious, nor is it a solution to a problem, the only problem it solves ins hunger. The Advert uses a song, silly costumes and lyrics in an attempt to persuade the viewer that the product is not only ran by good people, but is a company that you should buy from.
